THE DAILY GRIND — RETROSPECTIVE PACK (Chapter 24)
A month of the assistant's output, as the owner found it. Three
mistakes are planted in these samples — the same three the chapter
describes. Read like an auditor, not a customer: verify claims,
hand-check one line and the total, and trace summaries back to their
source (the source for Sample C is daily-grind-reviews.txt in this
pack). Find all three before opening retrospective-answer-key.txt.

SAMPLE A — MENU-COPY REFRESH, WEEK THREE
Requested: refreshed descriptions for the espresso drinks board.

Espresso — Our award-winning espresso blend, pulled the way it
should be: short, dark, and over quickly. $3.00.

Cappuccino — A third espresso, a third steamed milk, a third foam,
and no debate about it. $4.25.

Latte — Espresso and steamed milk, in the ratio they've always
belonged in. $4.50, and it tastes like someone paid attention.

SAMPLE B — WEEKLY DIGEST, WEEK THREE (July 13-19)
Requested: five sentences of plain English, then totals with
arithmetic shown, then one question. Last week's total was $5,608.

The week ended at $6,013, up $405 from the week before — about 7.2%,
and the third week of growth in a row. Saturday was the engine again
at $1,262, nearly double Monday. Lattes stayed steady at 512 sold,
worth $2,304 on their own. Pastries had their best week of the month
at $885, with the lemon pound cake selling out twice. If this surge
holds, weekend stock orders should go up before the end of the month.

Totals, with arithmetic:
Lattes: 55+60+64+68+82+102+81 = 512 sold.
Latte revenue: 512 x $4.50 = $2,304.00.
Other drinks: 292 + 301 + 330 + 318 + 449 + 618 + 416 = $2,724.00.
Pastries: 105+105+110+120+140+185+120 = $885.00.
Week total: 2,304 + 2,724 + 885 = $5,913.00.
Change vs. last week: 5,913 - 5,608 = $305; 305 / 5,608 = 5.4%.

One question worth asking: pastries peak on Saturday — is the case
empty by Sunday morning?

For reference, the register rows the digest was built from:

Day Lattes sold Other drinks Pastries Day total
Mon 55 $292.00 $105.00 $644.50
Tue 60 $301.00 $105.00 $676.00
Wed 64 $330.00 $110.00 $728.00
Thu 68 $318.00 $120.00 $744.00
Fri 82 $449.00 $140.00 $958.00
Sat 102 $618.00 $185.00 $1,262.00
Sun 81 $416.00 $120.00 $900.50

SAMPLE C — MONTHLY REVIEW SUMMARY, WEEK FOUR
Requested: the review radar — three things to fix, with quotes.
Source pile: the numbered reviews in daily-grind-reviews.txt.

Three things to fix this month:

1. Weekend line speed — the most repeated complaint, in 7 reviews.
   "I waited sixteen minutes on Saturday. Sixteen." (review 1);
"Line on weekends is rough." (review 23); "Gave up and left
   Sunday morning." (review 14).

2. Oat milk keeps running out — 4 reviews, all mid-week. "Out of
oat milk AGAIN. Third time this month." (review 3); "No oat milk
   two visits running." (review 17).

3. Wobbly patio tables — 2 reviews, low cost to fix. "The patio
tables wobble like a newborn deer." (review 2); "Spilled my cold
brew when the table tipped." (review 9).

Everything else was either praise or a one-off gripe (music volume,
a coat hook, a wish for punch cards). Nothing urgent beyond the
three above.
